SCORECARD INSTRUCTIONS

1.      Preprinted scorecards are available for each foursome on league day. When playing Tucson Nine or SaddleBrooke Nine they can be found in the posting area of the Pro Shop below the Niners' bulletin board. When playing Catalina Nine the cards can be obtained from the Catalina Starter.

2.      The date, start time and hole # will be pre-printed on the card.

3.      The golfer's name and handicap will be pre-printed on the card.

4.      Golfers should complete the card legibly.

5.      Use a pencil or erasable pen so that corrections to the scorecard can be made clearly.

6.      Complete each player's hole score, gross score, net score, and equitable stroke score.

7.      Please remember to account for your equitable stroke score on each hole by putting a dot under the score for that hole (example: if you can only take a 9 on a particular hole and you get a 10, then put a dot under the 10). Then deduct the number of dots from your gross score for posting  (Do not subtract the dots from your gross or net score.)

8.      If for some reason you pick up your ball and do not finish a hole, please precede your most likely score for the hole with an X; i.e., X5.  Remember a player who starts, but does not complete a hole must record for handicap purposes the most likely score.  The most likely score may not exceed the player's equitable stroke score.  Any time you pick up without completing the hole, you are disqualified (DQ) from the game of the day (prize money).  Write DQ directly behind your name on the scorecard.  In the notes, under the hole write PU for pickup.

EXAMPLE:

Betty is on hole #2 and hits her tee shot into the sand.  She goes over and hits shot two that just went to the other end of the bunker.  She walks through the bunker and hits shot 3 which lands on the green about 8 feet from the hole.  While the others were playing Betty starts to rake the bunker and since she walked clear through it, it was taking quite some time.  Everyone had holed out and there were two groups waiting on the tee.  Betty decides in the interest of pace of play to pick up and do the estimate on most likely score from that point.  Betty had 3 strokes to this point and gave herself 2 putts for a score of X5.  This would be a reasonable score for the circumstance.  The group moved to the next tee and got out of the way."  Betty records the X5 on her scorecard, not an X9 which is her max.

9.      On holes that are closed for whatever reason, please refer to the POP chart in your Niners’ handbook, the chart posted on the Niners’ bulletin board, or click here for the proper score for the hole.

10. Clearly indicate birdies by circling the score and writing "Birdie" in the "note birdies and other notes here" section.

11. Handicaps are updated on the 1st & 15th of each month, so be sure to check your handicap and verify that it is correct on your scorecard.

12. Sign card. (All golfers must sign the card unless a dispute form has been filed.)

13. Cards must be turned in on league days. Cards are put in the green box in the pro shop computer room promptly following play. (Before going to lunch.) Please only submit your official pre-printed card. Do not submit the backup card from your foursome.

14. It is not necessary to turn in score cards from non-league days. However, you are required to post all golf scores for handicapping.

15. Post all scores within 48 hours to avoid a penalty score.

Note:  Players are assessed a 2 stroke penalty to their gross (and thus net) score if they are moved to the green tees due to slow play. Note in the comment section of the scorecard which holes were played from the green tees. For individual hole scores and handicap posting use par + POPs for those holes played from the green tees. If more than 2 holes are played from the green tees, DO NOT POST. (Click here to see Pace of Play Policy)

Equitable Stroke Score

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is a downward adjustment of an individual hole score based on handicap to ensure that one bad hole does not have a disproportionate effect on a golfers handicap. This procedure is used for handicap score posting only and is not to be used in any type of competition. Please review the Equitable Stroke Control table which shows the adjustment to be made for golfers of different abilities.

9 Hole Handicap

Course Handicap                Maximum
    4 or less -------------------Double Bogie
    5-9 -------------------------------- 7
    10-14 ----------------------------- 8
    15-19 ----------------------------- 9
     20 or more --------------------- 10

18 Hole Handicap

Course Handicap                       Maximum
    9 or less -------------------------Double Bogie
    10-19 ----------------------------------- 7
    20-29 ----------------------------------- 8
    30-39 ----------------------------------- 9
    40 or more ---------------------------- 10

Example:

A player with a 9-hole course handicap of 17 takes 10 strokes to complete a hole. The 10 would be used to calculate their gross and net scores. However, to calculate their Equitable Stroke Score, the maximum strokes for that hole would be 9.  (Write a 10 for the hole score and put a dot under the score for that hole. Then deduct the number of dots from your gross score for posting - equitable stroke score.  Do not subtract the dots from your gross or net score.)
