HONOR SYSTEM

Golf is played on the honor system. A player is expected to count her own strokes even though the ball may be whiffed.

She would avoid interfering in any way with the play of her opponents or fellow competitors.

She must acknowledge promptly the fact that she has violated a rule and incurred a penalty.

When there is a breach of rules, fellow players are honor bound to call attention to the infraction if not called by the player herself. When there is a question about an infraction, it should be settled affably with the foursome. A rule book should be carried by at least one member of the foursome. If there is no resolution of the possible infraction, a ruling can be made by the golf pro shop or the rules committee.

The proper counting of strokes and scoring must be resolved AFFABLY by the playing group. Remember, if you do not call a fellow competitor's attention to a rules infraction when it occurs (even if you know the correct ruling) forever hold your peace. After completion of the round, it is too late. The first objective of golf is to enjoy the game and the other players' pleasure in playing the game.
